Is (bookish) Hype All Bad??//ft pros and cons+lists (because that’s really all my blog is, lol)

-others chose to roll their eyes and relax comfortably between their backlist loves-

the hype has been both mocked and praised, called misleading and been compared to the ‘guiding light of the north star’ simultaneously- especially in goodreads reviews. this really made me wonder, is the hype that is misplaced or is the pedestal we put certain books upon misplaced?

hype is subjective. it doesn’t always work, but when it does, it’s MARVELOUS and 100% better than romance. pfft, forgot twinkling stars when they kiss, think about YOUR WHOLE WORLD CHANGING WHEN THE BOOK MEETS YOUR EXPECTATIONS!! and the obsession that will consume you, ahh!!

iN 2021, FANTASY AND CONTEMPORARY ENDED UP BEING MY MOST READ GENRES!

…which was really a surprise considering i barely touched [coming of age] contemporary before but i am so grateful for discovering and falling in love with the genre! i branched out last year by reading contemporary and also a few romcoms and mysteries-that is something i want to continue this year too but in a more organized manner; hence i am participating in the 66 challenge hosted by May @foreverandeverly! (go check out her wonderful post here!) in this, you have to list three genres and chose six books from them that you want to read in the year.

before we dive into the challenge, i’ve made a list of my most and least read genres and why.

HI HI HELLO MY FELLOW BLOGGLINGS! I HAVE A VERY STARTLING DISCOVERY TO SHARE WITH Y’ALL! …I ✨GASP✨HAVE TEAR DUCTS!

^^this is very important as i believed i never cried during books* however, i made a startling discovery when i was scrolling through my goodreads shelves!! there WERE some books that had made me tear up! (truly,,, a shocking discovery that upeneded my world)
most of the time coming of age contemporary makes me tear up but on rare occasions, fantasy does too! (mainly fantasy because that’s my most read genre-)
hence, i’ve made this list of non-contemporary novels that made my eyes misty (and probably would make yours too! which means, go read them asap) but before we jump into the books my overexcited strawberries, I HAVE A LIST!! BULLET!!POINTS!! (they’re my one and only love ok?? we were married at midnight in a valley of flowers under the stars… ❤ )

Warning: I’m fangirling ahead, bold, all caps, no reservations. ALSO THIS CONTAINS SPOILERS

I am catastrophically in love with this duology and would 11/10 DIE for these precious cinnamon rolls*
The found family trope just KILLS me-my gosh! THE CROWS WOULD DIE FOR EACH OTHER DON’T YOU DARE TRY TO CONVINCE ME OTHERWISE.
The six of them are just friendship goals. AND I LOVE THEM SO MUCH! THE!!DYNAMICS!!THE!!FRIENDSHIPS!!😭😭<3 ❤ ❤
This book is just built on scheming face+waffles+helnik tension+”who’s mark?”+inej’s laugh+jesper being a sarcastic little shit.
This is probably my most incoherent post ever??? But I don’t particularly care haha.
